Review: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth explained to parents (Preview)

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Featured Ecran Partage

What parents need to know

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second part of the remake of the game of the same name released in 1997. It is to be released in early 2024, exclusively on PS5. It is not necessary to have played other Final Fantasy games to enjoy this game. The story is completely independent.

Just like in the original game, the player takes on the role of Cloud Strife the mercenary, who joins a group of eco-terrorists to stop the Shinra company from absorbing the planet’s energy and oppressing the population. To do this, the heroes have to explore diverse environments, to solve puzzles, and to face various enemies such as soldiers, monsters, mercenaries, and machines.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth takes and reinterprets the classic PlayStation 1 game to current quality standards, but not in its entirety. FFVII Rebirth is actually the second part of three for this reinterpretation. The first part, Final Fantasy VII Remake, was released in 2021 while the third part is under development at Square Enix. This game is considered suitable for players over the age of 13.

Evaluation

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth features many fights with blades, firearms, punches, kicks, magic attacks (electricity, fire, ice, wind, etc.), and summons. In this game, there are fights against monsters, soldiers, robots, and aliens as well as multiple sound impacts, cries of pain, and sounds of explosions. Some cutscenes present violence against the characters.

Some female characters have outfits that highlight their physique or plunging necklines. Suggestive gestures and words can be done and said by some characters.

It is a game that is best enjoyed by people who have known how to read for years. It contains a lot of text, whether to tell the story or to give the quest objectives. The dialogues of this game feature many violent words, threats, taunts, and some sexual innuendo. Alcoholic beverages are mentioned many times. Insults and vulgar terms also appear in the dialogues.

The hero and his friends team up to save the planet and to protect it from exploitation.

Camera control combined with the multiple simultaneous actions required can make the game difficult for neophytes to get into. The combat system is already quite complex, and it presents many interesting challenges. Several difficulty levels are available, including Hard difficulty, which is unlocked once the game is completed for the first time.
