The Quebec Video Game Guild supports a first cohort with the DEI accelerator program

La Guilde Programme Accelerateur DEI Ecran Partage

This is a press release from the Quebec Video Game Guild:

Montreal, March 21, 2024 – The Guilde du jeu vidéo du Québec is proud to announce that a first cohort of studios has participated in its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Accelerator Program, made possible with the support of the Canada Media Fund, in collaboration with National Bank. Through the program’s activities, 10 video game studios have embarked on a DEI mentorship and coaching journey.

This new program consists of supporting independent studios with fewer than 50 employees in their integration of tools and practices that promote an organizational culture adhering to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion. This initiative allowed the cohort to benefit from mentorship, workshops focused on the creation of new tools as well as roundtables to prepare for their implementation.

The companies supported were asked to create a DEI action plan adapted to their realities, to write their policies and to create an employee handbook. This program therefore offered studios the opportunity to equip themselves with a concrete structure validated by experts to ensure an equitable, inclusive and safe work environment.

“We are very pleased that independent studios have been able to benefit from DEI advice and expertise tailored specifically to the context of the video game industry. It is a particularly valuable resource that contributes to the updating of our ecosystem,” says Béatrice Desjardins-Gagnon, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisor, La Guilde du jeu vidéo du Québec.

“The CMF is committed to supporting the development of DEI skills in the video game industry. We are convinced that this mentorship program contributes in a concrete way to equipping companies in the pursuit of their inclusion objectives. ” adds

Jessica Lea Fleming, Director, Growth and Inclusion, Canada Media Fund.

“National Bank is proud to support Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives in the video game industry. These values are at the heart of our commitment and we are convinced of the relevance and impact of the mentorship program within companies in this sector,” said Brigitte Leblanc, Managing Director & Head, Creative Industries Canada & International Group, National Bank.

The Accelerator Program is part of the DEI Action Plan that La Guilde adopted in 2021. It includes various mandates to raise awareness, accompany, support and equip its member studios on DEI issues.
