What parents need to know<\/h2>\n\n

Pentiment<\/em> is a narrative adventure<\/strong> game, taking place in Bavaria (Germany) in the sixteenth century at the very beginning of the Renaissance, a period upset by religious and political<\/strong> changes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

While getting to know various characters<\/strong> with various social classes<\/strong> and personalities<\/strong>, the player will find himself embroiled in crimes<\/strong>, scandals <\/strong>and intrigues<\/strong> to unravel.<\/p>\n\n

In the face of the chaos and turmoil of this era in Europe, every decision<\/strong> is subject to repercussions on the future<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Principle of the game<\/h2>\n\n

Through a prodigious artistic direction, seeming to tell us a story through old books, the player embodies Andreas Maler<\/strong>, master craftsman, residing in a village for some time in order to fulfill his contract with the local abbey.<\/p>\n\n

The murder<\/strong> of an influential personality within the abbey will upset the daily life of the whole village. It is our old friend, Piero, who will be wrongly accused<\/strong>. Driven by this rage of injustice, the player will investigate <\/strong>throughout the village in order to exonerate him.<\/p>\n\n

Like a point and click<\/em>, the player is led to explore<\/strong> the different environments of the village. It will pass through the houses of the inhabitants, through the forest full of secrets to the nooks and crannies of the entire abbey. Collectibles<\/em>\n \n<\/strong>, objects to recover, will advance the investigation and sometimes even provoke friendly and immersive mini-games<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

In addition to socializing, or not, with all the inhabitants and animals, it should be noted that every word or action will have consequences<\/strong>. It’s<\/strong> up to you to choose your destiny<\/strong>, reputation<\/strong>, allies <\/strong>and enemies.<\/p>\n\n

A little customization:<\/strong> The player has the option to choose some of Andreas’ personality traits such as his past, interests or studies. This will unlock certain dialogues and actions.<\/p>\n\n

The difficulty is social<\/strong> : knowing how to seduce the other characters in order to later have a favor from them.<\/p>\n\n

Pentiment<\/em> is a nice little artistic masterpiece<\/strong> filled with interesting references<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Although the main subject <\/strong>is a murder to be solved<\/strong>, it does not monopolize the entire experience of the game. The player is led to build social relationships<\/strong> by making his own choices<\/strong>. It is possible to disrespect an old lady or a teenager just as it is possible to choose impartiality in certain situations.<\/p>\n\n

The game does not<\/strong> require specific physical and mental<\/strong> skills<\/strong>. The minimum <\/strong>required is to know how to read<\/strong> and move<\/strong> via the click of a mouse or the joystick of a controller.<\/p>\n\n

The mini-games<\/strong> make the experience<\/strong> more immersive<\/strong>, putting us in the shoes of this master craftsman. Although they are simple <\/strong>and fast<\/strong>, some require a minimum of reflection<\/strong> not blocking us for a long time or jumping to the eyes by its simplicity. Have you ever dealt with fresh sheep’s wool? You will have the opportunity to try for example!<\/p>\n\n

I recommend Pentiment<\/em> for players who love narrative games and are fond of investigations to solve. The game remains very human with its social and political dilemmas encountered.<\/p>\n\n

However, I do not recommend<\/strong> it for children<\/strong>. Reading <\/strong>would be painful <\/strong>for them, would make them lose interest<\/strong> in a language a little complicated to understand and in the face of philosophical and political references. The subject of the murder<\/strong> remains explicit<\/strong> in the face of dialogue and visually (blood is visible or even a scene of decapitation, although it is romanticized).<\/p>\n\n
