The Overcooked series is developed by Ghost Town Games. You play as chefs who have to prepare dishes for customers. The peculiarity of this game is that you will have to prepare them quickly, and this, in a kitchen full of obstacles.
The Overcooked series is played alone, or in cooperation with other players, however, the game is best enjoyed by 4 players. You will therefore have to join forces in order to satisfy the culinary tastes of your customers. Although the focus is on the theme of cooking, the levels are more reminiscent of puzzles to solve.
The series is composed mainly of 3 games:
- Overcooked
- Overcooked 2
- Overcooked All You Can Eat

Overcooked
Basic Edition
Overcooked is the first installment in the series. You start the game during an apocalypse caused by a gigantic ball of meat. Unable to satisfy his appetite, the Onion King takes you back in time, in 1993, in order to have ample time to prepare you to face the creature. So you will have to cook for your customers in order to progress in the game. The difficulty of the levels increases as you progress through the game. To complete the edition, it will take about ten hours.

Overcooked Gourmet Edition

Overcooked Special Edition
Identical to the Gourmet Edition, that is to say that this edition includes the base game and the 2 expansions: Lost Morsel and Festive Seasoning/ Festive Seasoning.
This edition is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, but the only difference between the Gourmet Edition and this one is the title. It must be believed that the developers preferred to give another name to the Nintendo Switch version. This version is known to have slowdowns compared to versions that are on other consoles.

Overcooked 2
Basic Edition
The principle of the second game is essentially the same as the first, except that the levels include new mechanics. To complete the basic edition, it will take about ten hours.
The big addition of this game is that the game is playable online with other players.
Ability to obtain the following extensions:
- Surf’n’Turf: includes 12 new levels in addition to cosmetic items.
- Campfire Cook Off: includes 15 new levels in addition to cosmetic items.
- Carnival of Chaos: Includes 15 new levels in addition to cosmetic items.
- Night of the Hangry Horde: 12 new levels, a new game mode that itself includes 8 levels, as well as other cosmetic items.
- Too Many Cooks Pack: Includes cosmetic items only. Avoid if you want to save money.
- Season Pass: Allows purchase of Campfire Cook Off, Night of the Hangry Horde and Carnival of Chaos expansions at a reduced amount.
All extensions are subject to a fee.
In sum, the expansions include 54 additional levels and an additional game mode that contains 8 levels.

This edition of the game includes the base games Overcooked and Overcooked 2 without any expansions. Online multiplayer play is only available in Overcooked 2. Available in physical or digital format on select consoles only.
Overcooked All You Can Eat
Overcooked All You Can Eat is not a new game, but a compilation of Overcooked 1 and 2 games. This game also includes all the additional content of each of the games. There will therefore be a lot of levels to complete before completing the game, which guarantees hours of fun. The game’s graphics have been improved, and new game modes have been added. To complete the game, it will take about thirty hours.
⚠️Be careful! There seem to be bugs on the online mode. Some players are logged out impromptu during the game. ⚠️
This edition also allows you to play online with other players, both in the first game and in the second. The game also allows cross-platform play (possibility of online player with players who are on other platforms.
In short, Overcooked All You Can Eat is the most complete version of the game.

But which game to choose?
The series is aimed at those who like to solve puzzles with a fast cadence. Whether you play the first or second game, those who like to solve puzzles will be served.
The series features multiple editions of the game as well as several expansions, which can be quite confusing when it’s time to buy it. By, a search on Steam for the term “Overcooked” comes out with several results (both base games and several expansions), and it can be difficult to make a choice among these.
If you are interested in the game, buy Overcooked All You Can Eat. Thus, you will have access to the most complete edition of the game, which includes the two base games in addition to all the expansions. Unfortunately, this version still contains bugs on the online mode.
However, the developers are currently continuing to release updates in order to improve the quality of the game. There have already been updates that have improved the quality of play for many.
It’s not really worth buying the other editions of the game, as they are relatively short games, and buying the expansions can be quite expensive.
Do not buy Overcooked + Overcooked 2, this edition is difficult to find and often very expensive, the price is not worth it.
The only scenario where we recommend buying the games separately is when you already own one of the games and want to buy the second.
