Montreal, being one of the most important cities in terms of game development in the world, had to have many communities in this regard.

Like its population, the majority of events are bilingual, French and English.

Here is an overview of what is being done in the Canadian metropolis:

DevTeamDrink by DevTeamLife

The author of the DevTeamLife comic, Victor Lahlou, organizes networking events every 3rd Thursday of each month in a Montreal bar.

Aimed mainly at comic book clients and the video game industry, these events were so successful that he created meetings in Vancouver and Paris as well.

Game Dev McGill

At GameDev McGill, we ask all members to work on at least one game per year. To help you achieve this, we host monthly internal game jams and the McGameJam once a year, and we give you the opportunity to participate in the Ubisoft GameLabs competition. Of course, you can also choose to work on personal projects or participate in external events. Either way, we can’t wait to see what you create!

Game Dev MTL

Game Dev MTL is a site and organization aimed at bringing together game development events in Montreal.

You can find the Montreal events on the site just above.

The site’s team also organizes Indie Cheers every few months, which consists of networking events in a bar for members of the industry.

The Indie Cheers event is open to professional video game developers.

The next events will be open to everyone.

The Video Game Guild in Quebec

The Guild organizes events regularly for member companies and studios. Networking, Lunch & Learn, General Assembly, 5 to 7, La Caravane.

Some rare events are open to non-members.

Every year, they also host MIGS, the Canadian video game industry’s premier B2B event.

Open to Guild members. To join, you must have a video game company registered in Quebec and register here by paying the admission fee.

IVGD playtests by Dawson College

Dawson College organizes playtests every 2 months open to independent developers and students of the College.

IVGD is the acronym for Independent Video Game Design, their school curriculum in video game design.

Open to Dawson College students and anyone interested in video game development.

Pixelles

Non-profit association aimed at building the capacity of women and underrepresented genders in the field of video game development. It has been in existence for more than 10 years and is at the origin of many initiatives.

Pixels & Poutine

Pixels & Poutine is a space where Montreal gaming professionals, especially small freelancers and remote workers, can organize and meet. Launched in 2022, it hosts a meetup on the first Tuesday of every month, virtual teatime chats, and a community discord of 200 developers. Their 17th monthly meeting will take place on October 1st (place and time available in the discord).

Women in Games Montreal is a community of self-identifying gaming industry professionals who are dedicated to creating a safe space to share knowledge, support each other, and advance gender equity. Starting this fall, they will regularly organize meetings, round tables and seek to establish partnerships.
