Which Naruto / Boruto game to choose on Nintendo Switch, Playstation, Xbox One, Series and PC?

Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 Featured Ecran Partage

Naruto (1999–2014) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto. It tells the story of Uzumaki Naruto, a clumsy and unlucky young ninja who hopes to gain recognition from those around him by dreaming of becoming Hokage: the village chief.

The series is divided into 2: “Naruto” which tells the childhood of this one, and “Naruto Shippuden” which tells the adolescence of this one.

In addition to these 2 series, Boruto now tells the story of Naruto’s child, and Naruto’s parenthood. This is the series that is currently broadcast.

The manga has been a huge success worldwide and this has spawned multiple adaptations in cartoons, books, movies, video games and all the paraphernalia of clothes, figurines, toys that go with this type of franchise.

While there are many, many games that have been released over the years, here we focus on those that are still available on recent consoles and systems.

This is an article meant to be updated as you go, depending on the releases.

Note that the games have been starting to date for a few years, and therefore are very often available at a discount during the sales periods of each platform (Steam PC, Playstation, Xbox or Nintendo Switch). It is better to wait for the sales to get them at very low prices.

All the games, manga, and anime in the Naruto series are Shonen, that is, they are works that are intended for teenagers.

They contain many fights, blood, suggestive content.

NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM Revolution (2014)

It is a 3D arena fighting game. Players choose 3 fighters from more than 50 fighters from the manga and face the opposing team. The moves, powers, levels are very faithful to the original material. The game is playable online and many people are very proficient in the game.

The story takes up the fourth ninja war of the manga, and reconstructs its staging and combat in game.

It is the latest installment in the fighting game series released to date. It is also the most complete, it contains all levels and characters

However, you have to buy many additional extensions to unlock everything:

  • Akatsuki Combination Secret Technique
  • Gaara’s Tale Extra Scenario Pack
  • NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 4 ROAD TO BORUTO Pack
  • NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: UNS 4 ROAD TO BORUTO NEXT GENERATIONS Pack
  • Shikamaru’s Tale Extra Scenario Pack
  • The Sound Four Extra Playable Characters Pack

The NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 4 – Season Pass contains:

  • The Sound Four Extra Playable Characters Pack

The NARUTO SHIPPUDEN™: Ultimate Ninja® STORM 4 – Deluxe Edition contains:

  • NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 4
  • NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 4 – Season Pass

A very confusing nomenclature unfortunately.

Playable with 1 or 2 players.

Available on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Steam PC.

NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 Road To Boruto

This is the game NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 4 (described above) and all of these expansions:

  • Akatsuki Combination Secret Technique
  • Gaara’s Tale Extra Scenario Pack
  • NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 4 – Season Pass
  • NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 4 ROAD TO BORUTO Pack
  • NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: UNS 4 ROAD TO BORUTO NEXT GENERATIONS Pack
  • Shikamaru’s Tale Extra Scenario Pack
  • The Sound Four Extra Playable Characters Pack

We naturally recommend this edition more, which is very often available at low prices.

WARNING: Do not confuse this with the expansion NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 4 ROAD TO BORUTO Pack which is therefore not the complete game. If there is “PACK” at the end, it is the expansion for the original game.

Available on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Steam PC.

NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja Storm Legacy

It is a compilation of the following games:

  • NARUTO: Ultimate Ninja STORM (2008)
  • NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 2 (2010)
  • NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 3 Full Burst (2013)
  • NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 4 (2016) and its ROAD TO BORUTO expansion

If you want to relive the whole history of Naruto in fighting video games, this compilation has something for you.

This includes all Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games released to date as well as their expansions. It’s a lot of content, and honestly it’s a bit too much if your time is limited.

Playable with 1 or 2 players.

Available on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Steam PC.

NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution (2014)

A 3D arena fighting game playable from 1 to 4 players. Released between Naruto Shippuden: UNS 3 and 4, to keep fans waiting for episode 4 busy. It’s entertaining but outdated now. Naturally with 4 players in the arenas, the fights become very confusing. Prefer the 4 to this one.

Playable from 1 to 4 players.

Available on Steam PC

Formerly available on PS3 and Xbox 360

NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy (2017)

It is a compilation of the following games:

  • NARUTO: Ultimate Ninja STORM (2008)
  • NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 2 (2010)
  • NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 3 Full Burst (2013)

If you want to relive the whole history of Naruto in fighting video games up to the fourth ninja war, this compilation has something for you.

Playable with 1 or 2 players.

Available on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Steam PC.

NARUTO TO BORUTO: SHINOBI STRIKER

It is a 3D fighting game in very large arenas. Fighters compete in teams of 4 against 4. You choose your favorite character, customize his outfit, appearance, special moves and powers and go against opponents online

The game is entertaining but not exceptional.

It is available in a free version “LITE” that will allow you to test the game before buying.

WARNING: Many expansions are available for purchase and the game constantly encourages players to buy more characters. Monetization is very aggressive.

Additional characters are available for purchase separately for $5 + tax each, or in a pack of 9 characters for $40 + taxes. Packs are called Season Passes.

There are for now: 5 Season Passes to buy in addition to the original game. That’s $80 + 5 x $40 = $280 + taxes for the full game…

NARUTO TO BORUTO: SHINOBI STRIKER Deluxe Edition contains:

  • NARUTO TO BORUTO: SHINOBI STRIKER (the original game)
  • NARUTO TO BORUTO: SHINOBI STRIKER Season Pass 1

Playable to one player locally and 8 players online.

Available on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Steam PC.

NARUTO x BORUTO: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections (2023)

A game gathering the entire story, content and characters of the 4 Ultimate Ninja Storm games, with additional content from more Boruto. It is advertised as the ultimate game and the best version in the series.

Details to come, around its release date, not announced for now.

Coming to Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and Steam PC.

Which Naruto game to choose?

We recommend NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 4 ROAD TO BORUTO if you want a 1-2 player arena fighting game with a 1-player playable story. This is by far the most accomplished of the games, and it is more than enough for all fans of the series.

We recommend NARUTO TO BORUTO: SHINOBI STRIKER if you want an arena fighting game with 1 to 8 players online. The game is mostly based on online combat, so if one day the publisher decides to close the servers, the game will no longer be of much interest.

Everything else are old games or compilation of old games that have been amply surpassed by NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 4 ROAD TO BORUTO.
