4. New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe
Obviously, the basis of Super Mario Bros. Wonder is all of Nintendo’s previous work on Mario platformers.
4 players simultaneously, many environments and powers and transformations.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is an iteration on this work. While playing the previous one, you can notice improvements and other game design decisions made by Nintendo’s development teams.
Available on Nintendo Switch
3. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is an exceptional game with its direction, execution, outstanding soundtrack and high difficulty.
Among the many aspects present in DKC TF, the one I found in Wonder is the rollercoaster aspect of some levels. Indeed, the whole setting and environment can change at any time, and you don’t know what to expect when choosing this or that level for the first time.
Available on Nintendo Switch
2. Super Mario Maker 2
After releasing Super Mario Maker 2 and seeing the players’ creations, Nintendo wondered how to release a surprising new Mario after that.
Nintendo has taken many of its users’ concepts for Wonder including the use of on-off switches, musical notes, and how to perform music levels.
Remember that in Super Mario Maker 2 anyone can create their levels and make them available on the Internet, for better or for worse.
Available on Nintendo Switch
1. Rayman Legends
See the super levels of energetic music in Rayman Origins and its sequel Legends? While Ubisoft is not the first developer to have created them, they are by far very well executed in both games. There’s also the whole art direction which is remarkable, and the organized chaos aspect that can be found in Mario Wonder.
It’s definitely the game most like Mario Wonder.
Rayman Legends contains the levels of Rayman Origins as well.
Rayman Legends is available on Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Ubisoft Connect PC (purchasable via Epic Games Store or Steam as well but this launches Ubisoft Connect).
Game not compatible with the Steam Deck unfortunately.
