Review: Forza Horizon 6 explained to parents

Forza Horizon 6 Key Art Ecran Partage

What parents need to know

Forza Horizon 6 is an open-world racing game developed by Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios, both of which are Xbox Game Studios.

There are 2 series of Forza games:

Forza Motorsports for realistic racing simulations on circuits, and Forza Horizon for more “arcade” car races, i.e. less realistic, with vehicles that are easier to control and generally in an open world.

For this sixth Horizon, Playground and Turn 10 take us to a Tokyo reimagined for car racing. Indeed, the Horizon Festival takes place in Japan, and features the Tokyo countryside, the city, and the famous highways including the car races that have inspired a whole section of popular culture (Midnight Club, Tokyo Xtreme Racer, Initial D…).

In this game, everything is focused on the pleasure of driving in sumptuous environments. Friction is reduced to a minimum, you can cross tree forests without stopping (except for the Japanese cherry trees), finish any event at any place, and still progress in the story.

Many car brands are represented such as Chevrolet, BMW, Ferrari, Ford, and the player is offered many vehicles for his collection as he progresses. There are more than 638 cars that you can collect, drive, but also customize to your liking.

The more events you complete such as races against rivals, stunts, time trials… The more the open world map is populated with many icons representing new trials to be accomplished.

In addition to the cars, the whole game is customizable to your liking: the difficulty, the controls and the graphics of course, but also a good number of menu navigation aids and countless accessibility aids.

You can play Forza Horizon 6 as you wish, and even on Steam Deck, as there are so many optimization settings.

Le jeu a été fourni dans son édition “Premium” sur Steam par l’éditeur à des fins de critique. It does not influence our opinion.

Lots of text to read for menus, and vehicle specifications.

Car racing, exploration and competition.

Some songs contain words like “damn” and “hell”.

Progressive difficulty in the game, but it is always possible to adapt the difficulty level and accessibility options to your needs.

The base game costs $90 + taxes at release.

To have all the vehicles at launch, you have to pay $160 + taxes for the Premium version.

So there are many additional car packs and other additions that can be purchased in DLCs.

And according to the history of the series, many DLCs will be available for purchase in the coming months.

Our opinion

From the first race to the current game, you constantly have your jaw down as the game is so sumptuous. Everything is beautiful, the environments are gigantic and very well modeled.

I’m not an automotive expert, but I enjoy the careful modeling of vehicles as well. The work on the lighting is also remarkable.

And just everything is nice, the driving, the menus, the rewards, the car collection.

The events are constantly varied in an attempt to break the monotony.

The only problem with events that allow you to progress by finishing in any place in the ranking: there is a bit of a lack of stakes. Maybe this is a requirement for the early game races, but even after about ten hours of play, all the races play like rides.

Note that there is no French version of the voices because the French dubbing actors have not agreed to cede their rights to Microsoft for permanent use via generative artificial intelligence. There are voiced voices in the other languages, see above. Source: Xbox-Mag, IGN France
