What parents need to know

Squeakross: Home Squeak Home is the latest addition to the Montreal duo Alblune.

Squeakross is a game of nonogram, also called Picross. The principle of these logic puzzles is simple: we are presented with a grid grid with columns and numbered rows. These numbers tell us the series of blackened boxes in the row or column in question. Thus, if a row indicates “3” and “2”, it means that we will find in this row a consecutive series of 3 blackened squares, then another of 2.

You must then complete the grid to ensure that everything is logical, which will reveal an image.

It’s a type of puzzle that can be reminiscent of sudoku, the kind of puzzle that the author of these lines loves.

The specificity of Squeakross: Home Squeak Home is that you play as a mouse (that we create ourselves) who lives in a very small room, empty at first.

It is by completing the puzzles that we will unlock furniture and decorations to furnish our rodent’s home, as well as disguises to dress him.

And that’s it! Squeakross is meant to be a simple and relaxing game, which does not put pressure on the players.

Evaluation

Squeakross is cute as can be and understands neither violence nor horror.

Nothing to report.

Apart from explaining the rules at the very beginning, you hardly need to know how to read to be able to enjoy this game.

There is no real message to speak of; We try to create a cozy nest for our mouse.

The game offers a lot of stickers representing the LGBTQIA2+ community as a reward, which we salute.

Some puzzles are a real challenge, of course, but the options to help newcomers are generous. In addition, the developers have decided not to set a time limit, in order to relieve any stress of their proposal.

With its affordable price ($19.99 CAD/ $14.99) and its generous amount of content, it’s hard to blame Squeakross for this level!

Our opinion

Your appreciation of Squeakross: Home Squeak Home will obviously depend on your appreciation of these types of puzzles. If you don’t like logic puzzles of this kind, there’s nothing here that will convince you.

But if you’re into these kinds of logical challenges, then Squeakross should charm you. We already appreciate games like those in the Picross S series that offer us a simple succession of puzzles, so we appreciate even more a title like Squeakross that rewards us when we complete them.

The graphics are charming and our mouse can be the cutest, enough to reconcile the most musophobic (yes, we had to google that word).

The offer of puzzles and scenery elements is also very generous, enough to completely customize our environment which grows as we progress.

The amount of puzzles offered is just as generous: we are offered 650 puzzles.

The game also offers well-thought-out options to help players complete the puzzles. For example, we can ask our rodent for a clue. These options make Squeakross an ideal entry point into the world of Picross.

In short, on all levels, Squeakross’ proposal charmed us, and we have no doubt that fans of the genre will be satisfied by all the content offered in this cutest title.
