What parents need to know

Mega Dimension is downloadable content for Pokémon Legends Z-A that we’ve already reviewed here.

In this DLC set after the end of the main game, interdimensional rifts appear in Lumium.

As you aim at these breaches, you’ll discover a strange reflection of Illumis, new Pokémon that haven’t been present in the city until now, and most importantly, Pokémon whose level exceeds the usual limit of 100.

So you have to explore these gaps to solve the mystery, and to do so, you’ll need to make donuts with the mysterious Anya so that her Pokémon, Hoopa, can help you visit them.

In addition to offering a new story, the DLC also offers additional side quests, brings back 130 Pokémon from previous games, and features 22 new Mega Evolutions, including Raichu X and Y as the headliner.

Evaluation

The Pokémon fight each other (that’s the heart of the game, by the way), but the violence is cartoonish and it doesn’t really feel like the creatures are suffering.

Nothing.

The Pokémon fight each other (that’s the heart of the game, by the way), but the violence is cartoonish and it doesn’t really feel like the creatures are suffering.

As usual, the friendship and bond between Pokémon and trainers allows them to save the world.

The real-time system requires a little more execution with the controller, but Legends Z-A is still a pretty easy game.

We’ve said it, and that’s our main criticism of this downloadable content; it is very expensive.

Local game modes

It is a simple continuation of the story mode.

Online Game Modes

You can trade Pokémon and battle friends and strangers online.

Expansions/Add-ons (DLC)

It should be the only expansion for Pokémon Legends Z-A.

Our opinion

Given that this downloadable content is released so soon after the release of the base game (released on October 16), we shouldn’t expect a revolution or a complete reinvention of Pokémon Legends Z-A.

We could take the easy way out and say that if you liked the base game, you’ll like this new content, and vice-versa. It seems true, but we still have to talk about the price.

At $39.99, this downloadable content is expensive. It can also be frustrating to know that this content was announced even before the base game was released, so it was developed in parallel and could very well have been part of the base game (by the way, some Pokémon were already available in the game code, but simply unavailable in the game).

On the other hand, this DLC offers a good amount of content. It takes about ten hours to complete the content, and up to 30 hours to complete everything.

So it’s up to you to decide if you liked Pokémon Legends Z-A enough to want more, and if that ten hours of additional content is worth $39.99.

For our part, we liked the base game, we are happy to return to Illumis, but we can’t help but deduct a few points for the price that seems exaggerated to us.

Our rating : 15 / 20
