What parents need to know

Sonic Origins Plus is a new and improved version of Sonic Origins.


Sonic Origins
is a compilation of games released in 2022. It contains the following Sonic platformers:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog (1991)
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992)
  • Sonic CD (1993)
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles (1994)

Originally these games were released on SEGA Genesis (called Mega Drive in Europe and Japan) and on SEGA CD (called Mega CD in Europe and Japan). The games were released in 4:3 display format, they have now been remade in 16:9, but there is a mode to display them in 4:3 as well. Now the number of lives is infinite. Origins adds additional game modes and missions that unlock content in a museum mode. The museum mode allowing you to consult images, videos, promotional music of the time.

Sonic Origins Plus adds to this compilation 12 Sonic games released Game Gear (a backlit handheld console from SEGA released in 1990):

  • Sonic the Hedgehog (8-bit)
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (8-bit)
  • Sonic Chaos
  • Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine (8-bit)
  • Sonic Drift
  • Sonic Spinball (8-bit)
  • Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble
  • Sonic Drift 2
  • Tails’ Skypatrol
  • Tails Adventure
  • Sonic Labyrinth
  • Sonic Blast

As well as the ability to play with the characters of Tails, Knuckles and Amy in all 4 Genesis/SEGA CD games mentioned above. New modes are emerging: extreme challenges, mirror mode and new backgrounds are available.

This time, Sonic Origins Plus is available in physical format also on consoles.

Owners of original Sonic Origins will be able to purchase the additions separately on the console’s or computer’s digital stores. No need to buy the entire game for that.
