What were the games presented at GLITCH?

GLITCH was an event designed to showcase games in development in Quebec. It takes place at École NAD-UQAC in Montreal, Canada, on September 20, 2023.

It was organized by Shared Screen and Studio Lazulite.

We had the chance to receive 5 teams of video game developers who came to present their creations.

Here are the games that were presented, in order of appearance:

Red Trigger (Studio Bold Spirit)

“Red Trigger started as a student project released in 2016, and has been downloaded more than 250,000 times. Subsequently, creator Maxime Vézina worked 4 years at Ubisoft Montreal on Assassin’s Creed Origins and Valhalla as Quest Designer. Then in 2020, he founded Bold Spirit Game Studio, which is working on Red Trigger 2, a much more ambitious sequel. A Remake of the first game was recently released also in August 2023, created by a team of more than 15 people.

Red Trigger is an FPS Puzzle series inspired by Portal, Metroid Prime and Bioshock, but retains a unique identity. The series is about mental health and the studio consults with mental health professionals to make sure it’s approaching the topic in the right way. The player embodies a computer virus that infiltrates a server in which each inhabitant is afflicted by a specific mental pain, such as psychosis or the famous “FOMO” (Fear Of Missing Out). The main mechanic is to pull on red blocks to extend and retract them. On the other hand, the player can only expand 3 at a time, so he must manage his energy wisely. It is possible to retract them one by one or all at once. These red blocks can be used in many ways, such as making platforms, holding open doors, powering systems, propelling themselves and much more. The game plays a lot with physics and momentum. It is also a series very appreciated by the “speedrunners” thanks to the mechanics of parkour and physics.

The first game is linear, lasts about 1 hour and acts as a prologue for the second game, which will have a lifespan of around 10 to 15 hours, and will be a semi open world with elements of Metroidvania. The player will return several times to a central biome and can explore the surrounding biomes at will, where he will gain new skills that will allow him to access new areas.
