AQUOPS’ 42nd Annual Conference: Even more content and technological tools for educators

320 workshops, conferences, six panels, two innovation fairs

This is an official press release from AQUOPS:

Montreal, 29 February 2024– The 42e Symposium of the Quebec Association of Users of Technological Tools for Pedagogical and Social Purposes (AQUOPS) presented by La Personnelle will offer educators 30% more workshops and digital pedagogical tools than in previous editions to facilitate their teaching, in particular thanks to artificial intelligence (AI).

“In a context of teacher shortages, where they are always asked to do more with less, digital technology and AI are daily allies,” says Véronique Lizotte, Executive Director of AQUOPS. Our colloquium offers practical workshops and conferences on the integration of digital technology in a school context. Participants learn how to use technological tools to design pedagogical activities in the classroom and facilitate their work. »

According to the leader, technology makes teachers’ jobs much easier, as well as preparing learners for the future, where the job market is changing faster than ever.

Unrivalled number of workshops

Under the theme Innovating, Sharing and Collaborating Together in the Age of AI, AQUOPS’ major digital educational gathering will take place from Tuesday, March 26 to Thursday, March 28 at the Québec City Convention Centre. The 1200 education professionals present (teachers, pedagogical consultants, principals, teacher students and other key players in the school community) will be able to discover innovative approaches, train, be inspired, exchange and network around educational technologies.

The rich program includes 320 workshops given by 300 facilitators from Quebec, Ontario, Belgium and Congo. Engaging and enriching topics include AI, creating podcasts and activities using apps like Canva, Moodle, and Minecraft, educational leadership, the flipped classroom, and a host of other hot topics.

The online workshop offering has also been expanded to 80 presentations, the majority of which will be available in replay. They will allow AQUOPS members to take advantage of a range of more than 100 training courses throughout the year.

To measure the importance of AI in schools

In terms of conferences, renowned specialists will discuss technological advances and the contribution of AI in education. Here are some titles you won’t want to miss:

AI in Education: Potential, Conditions and Challenges (Simon Collin, Professor and Canada Research Chair in Digital Equity in Education at UQAM)

The role of generative AI in education (Normand Roy and Bruno Poellhuber, professors in the Department of Educational Psychology and Andragogy at the Université de Montréal)

AI: an invitation to rethink the school of the future (Delphine LeSerre, entrepreneur ranked by Forbes among the 20 women transforming education technology in Europe)

Exciting forums, stimulating discoveries

Another major novelty is the six topical panels in education that will help to advance discussion and reflection within the educational community. The themes are: Educational Leadership; Embracing change with artificial intelligence; Podcasting as a tool for professional development; Digital technology at the service of future citizens; Citizenship in the Digital Age and The Use of Digital Technology in Education: What the Research Says.

Québec Technologies in the Spotlight

In addition to 60 exhibitors present, Innovation Fairs will be dedicated to promoting Québec educational technologies that facilitate teachers’ practice. In this regard, the vast majority of these innovations come from school staff. “Québec has a very strong centre of innovation in educational technologies,” says Véronique Lizotte. Most entrepreneurs in this sector are former educators who made the leap to the business side to facilitate the work of their former colleagues. »
