What parents need to know

Burning Shores is an expansion for Horizon Forbidden West, released on February 18, 2022.

Exclusive to Playstation 5 (unlike the base game that was available on Playstation 4 and 5), Burning Shores takes place 6 months after the final battle of the base game, as Sylens tells us that a 13th Zenith named Walter Londra has landed on Earth and has taken refuge in the area that was once Los Angeles and is now called Burning Shores due to volcanic activity there.

You will have to explore this region of the world, where you meet the lost half of the Quen expedition, in order to foil Londra’s sinister plans.

This DLC adds a few more weapons, including a Zenith weapon, a few new robotic enemies to face, and a story that will take you a few hours to complete.

Evaluation

The game is violent. At several points, Aloy has to murder human beings and the violence is realistic.

If love themes are evoked, the game is not overtly very sexual. Some clothes are a little more revealing, but again, they are not used to titillate.

The characters use swear words on occasion.

It is useful to know how to read to better understand the story (there are written traces left by the ancestors), as well as to understand the controls and to solve certain puzzles.

Behind the story of the Horizon franchise, there is always an environmentalist subtext. The game invites us to take care of nature and to be wary of the rich and powerful who put their thirst for money and power above collective interests.

The story of Burning Shores is also about love, forgiveness, and a sense of belonging to a group and family. The game is also pro-LGTQIA2+

However, there is use of violence on the part of our protagonist.

The base game can be challenging, and requires a good level of execution with the controller. You have to press buttons quickly, sometimes with complex combinations. It can also be difficult to defeat mechanical enemies if you don’t use strategy.

However, Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores offers several accessibility options for players with less experience or those living with motor limitations.

Extension qui doit être achetée en plus du jeu de base

At $27, this downloadable content is a bit expensive for its short lifespan. However, the content offered is of quality. It’s up to you to decide if it’s worth the cost according to your wallet.

However, there are no microtransactions or other purchases offered in the game.

Our opinion

There are criticisms that are difficult to write and require a lot of nuances. She is not part of that group.

If you liked Horizon Forbidden West, you’ll love Burning Shores. It’s as simple as that.

For $26.99 CAD (€19.99), you’ll be treated to an exciting new chapter in the saga of Aloy’s story, with innovative battles that build on the already solid foundation of the original game.

The price may be a tad high (at $ 19.99, we would have found the price fairer), but fans of the saga will not want to deprive themselves of this new episode, especially since the graphics are even more breathtaking.

Indeed, Horizon Forbidden West was already one of the most beautiful games on Playstation 5, but it still had to limit its ambitions in order to allow the PS4 version to work. But since this downloadable episode is exclusive to Sony’s newest console, all barriers are removed, and Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores is undoubtedly the most beautiful game available on this console generation at the time of writing.
