Marvel is now a brand known worldwide for its comics, movies and TV series. So it’s only natural to see the Disney-owned franchise available in all formats, including video games. These vary wildly in terms of quality and genre of gameplay. So here’s our explanation of recent games accessible on current consoles and computers:

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes
A classic LEGO adventure game featuring Marvel characters. Playable with 2 players and available on all consoles and computers.

Marvel’s Avengers
A production of Eidos Montreal that has tried the big gap to make a good single-player game and a good multiplayer game constantly updated, in a single . Unfortunately, this resulted in an average or even mediocre game that sold very poorly. It was removed from sale on PC, PS4, and Xbox digital platforms on September 30, 2023.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy
Another game from Eidos Montreal (like Marvel’s Avengers) but much better. It’s a single-player adventure featuring Star-Lord and the other guardians of the galaxy that lasts about twenty hours. Personally I’m not a fan of the art direction, but a lot of people had a lot of fun with it.

Marvel’s Iron Man VR
A virtual reality game available on Meta Quest 2, or Playstation VR 1 only.
The game’s plot revolves around the conflict between Iron Man and a mysterious hacker and terrorist known as Ghost. The latter targets Tony Stark and his company, seeking revenge for the loss of life caused by the weapons manufactured by the company before Stark became Iron Man.
The game is presented in a first-person view, placing the player in the virtual universe of Iron Man. The player is tasked with piloting Iron Man’s armor using his flight and weapons systems to confront his enemies, mainly in dogfights, in various environments. Iron Man can move freely through these environments, which are accessible through linear progression through different levels. He can interact with characters, complete missions, and unlock upgrades for his armor while advancing through the main story or completing challenges outside of the story.
After suffering several development delays and a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the game was finally released for PlayStation VR by Sony Interactive Entertainment on July 3, 2020. The reviews, collected by aggregator Metacritic, have been varied, giving the game mixed to average ratings.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns
A critically acclaimed tactical role-playing game with Marvel characters. Again, I’m not a fan of the modeling of the characters and their faces. Allow about forty hours to complete the adventure.
Playable with 1 player.
Available on Playstation 4, 5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PC.
Marvel’s Spider-Man
An excellent 3D action/adventure game featuring Peter Parker as Spider-Man. So you have to move Spider-Man and the camera constantly simultaneously. Everything is very well done in the game. It was a huge critical and commercial success and became one of Sony’s main exclusives for its Playstation 4 and 5. Now it’s the Remastered version of the game for you, as it contains all the additional content (DLC) released after the original release.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Another great 3D action/adventure game featuring Miles Morales as Spider-Man. So you have to move Spider-Man and the camera constantly simultaneously. Everything is very well done in the game. It was a huge critical and commercial success and became one of Sony’s main exclusives for its Playstation 4 and 5. It’s a sequel to the game above.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
The continuation of the 2 aforementioned games. Hopefully, it will be as fabulous as its predecessors. A 3D action/adventure game featuring Peter Parker and Miles Morales as Spiderman alternately.

Marvel Puzzle Quest
A free puzzle game where you have to match 3 identical symbols, a bit like Puzzle & Dragons and Candy Crush. Since it’s free, the player is constantly frustrated to force in-game purchases.
Playable with 1 player.
Available on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Steam PC.
Marvel SNAP
An excellent and very fast card game, where conditions and rules are constantly changing. You have to play a lot of games to unlock new cards, and paid cards are very expensive.
Playable with 1 player by computer or mobile in card games in 1 vs 1 online.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite
An excellent 2D fighting game completely neglected by players because of a reduced production budget, and especially sloppy graphics and art direction. It’s a shame because it had the potential to be fabulous thanks to its gameplay and combat system.
It’s the sequel to Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3, unfortunately it doesn’t live up to the mark in the hearts of players because of its selection of characters in particular.

Available on Steam PC, Playstation 4 or Xbox.
MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3: The Black Order
A highly entertaining beat’em up fighting game playable from 1 to 4 players. It’s not very ambitious, there are plenty of characters, and plenty of unlockable content for all difficulties. It’s nice and no headache at all.

Available on Nintendo Switch exclusively.

ULTIMATE MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 3
An excellent 2D fighting game, very technical but also fun for casual players. 50 characters. Unfortunately, the network code of the online modes is disastrous and makes the online game unplayable. For a game that requires a lot of action and reflexes, it’s a waste.

Available on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Steam PC.
Which Marvel game to choose?
There are so many games and games of different genres that it’s hard to recommend one or two titles. Among the best 3D action/adventure games, all Marvel’s Spiderman are fabulous.
Strategy game: Marvel Midnight Suns has very good reviews.
Card game: Marvel Snap is excellent.
In fighting game: Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 is excellent but has bad network code. Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite is excellent too but the graphics are bad. It is very playable online but there is no one online, and there is no crossplay. So choose your favorite and play it locally.
Personally, I don’t like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, but a lot of people enjoyed it. This is another 3D action/adventure game.
Finally MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3: The Black Order is a very good romp playable up to 4 players locally.
